PERSONAL CONSULTATION

Foglie d’Oro:
Modern wooden floors and claddings

In 1966, the Italian Brotto family began manufacturing solid wood furniture. Through a clever combination of woodworking craftsmanship and modern technology, they subsequently founded another brand, Foglie d’Oro, specializing in the production of custom-made wooden floors, wall claddings, and wooden stairs that perfectly complement each other. Control over the entire supply chain and extensive warehouses enabled them to focus on custom production with a high proportion of manual work. In collaboration with leading designers, they are now setting a new standard for what a wooden floor looks like. Their offerings include unconventional parquet shapes, combinations of wood with noble materials such as marble and brass, or modern color shades.

With regard to nature and people's health

Thanks to their foresighted approach, the Brotto family gradually gained control over the entire supply chain. Oaks grow in sustainably managed forests owned by the family and are then cut in company-owned sawmills in Hungary, Romania, and Italy. The entire process is now documented using blockchain technology, allowing the origin of the material to be traced back to the tree it came from. All the wood used has international FSC certification, and only environmentally friendly and human health-friendly natural products are used for its surface treatment. During installation, we use adhesives only from certified suppliers that meet the strictest emission standards.

Frequently asked questions

When choosing wooden flooring for interiors, oak is the most common option. Oak floors are relatively hard, which makes them stand out with their long lifespan. With proper care, they can last for decades, and even your grandchildren will be running around on them.

For more pronounced wood grain, European or American walnut is often chosen, which can be considered a luxurious wood. It is used for wooden floors, as well as furniture or wall cladding. It stands out in intricate mosaics, panels, or special modules from the brand Foglie d'Oro.

If you are looking for a specific type of European or exotic wood, contact us. With the help of our business partners, we are able to create exactly the kind of floor you desire.

Among the basic shapes of wooden floors are planks, herringbone, chevron, panels, and modules. Let's take a look at them one by one.

Planks - the basic shape for laying wooden floors, which highlights the natural character of wood the most. Generally, the wider and longer the plank, the more expensive it is. Among our specialties are jumbo planks from the manufacturer Foglie d'Oro, which reach a width of 50 cm and a length of up to 4.5 meters. Planks are generally chosen by customers who prefer a Scandinavian or rustic interior style.

Herringbone / fishbone - a classic pattern that comes to mind for most people when talking about wooden parquet flooring. It consists of shorter rectangular planks that are laid at a 90-degree angle to each other. This pattern is often chosen for interiors of traditional urban apartments.

Chevron - similar to herringbone, but unlike it, individual planks are parallelograms and are laid at a 45-degree angle (French pattern) or 60-degree angle (Hungarian pattern). When laid, they create long lines that visually elongate the space and give an elegant look.

Panels - a grand pattern of various shapes, often combining multiple types of wood materials or colors. We encounter it in representative spaces of villas, palaces, and historical buildings. Among the most famous are the so-called Vienna cross or Versailles panel.

Modules - the most modern and distinctive type of wooden flooring. It is often composed of several types of modules of different shapes, allowing for the creation of sophisticated geometric or organic patterns. These floors are often designed by contemporary designers, and their shapes are patented by individual manufacturers.

Floor patterns

Essentially none. Wooden flooring is a general term referring to any floor made of wood. Parquet is usually the term for a shaped piece of solid wood, most commonly used for laying in a herringbone/fishbone pattern.

Certainly. We are accustomed to participating in the restoration of cultural and historical objects and adjusting the selection and processing of the floor to comply with heritage protection requirements.

Current methods of processing combined with traditional wood staining methods essentially pose no limits for us. Thoughtfully chosen applications of varnishes or hard wax oils allow us to achieve countless combinations, and the color palette is almost unrestricted.

The only limit to color and texture lies in the choice of suitable wood species. Whether it's oak, American walnut, European walnut, teak, ash, or beech, each wood reacts differently and consequently looks different. We will, of course, advise you on choosing the appropriate wood type.

All the manufacturers we collaborate with have their years of proven know-how. They know how to create a surface treatment that ensures long-term stability, colorfastness, health safety, and a unique appearance for the floor.

Our suppliers offer various surface finishes using traditional manual techniques or modern technologies. Choose a floor that is hand-planed, smoked, thermo-treated, wire-brushed, scratched, sunburned, or one that combines multiple different treatments. The right technique will achieve the ideal impression for your interior.

Depending on the type of wood and intended use, the final treatment follows, where you have a choice of three options: oil, oil-wax, or varnish.

Yes. It's only necessary to select suitable wood and surface finish. Therefore, we first need to determine where the floor will be placed and what the expected traffic will be like. In the case of placement in areas with increased humidity, such as bathrooms, we select wood species that are not affected by changes in moisture (these include teak, merbau, ipe, and other species).

If the floor is intended for high-traffic areas, the covering is prepared for this use from the beginning of production. For such places, we choose a thicker floor with a durable wear layer to ensure long-term resistance.

Subsequently, regular maintenance with suitable products for the specific type of floor is advisable (each manufacturer has their recommended and most suitable care). Don't have time to handle maintenance? Contact us, and we will send a technician to thoroughly inspect the floor and suggest any necessary measures. You can then either carry them out yourself or easily order them from us.

We exclusively cooperate with European manufacturers, whom we represent exclusively on the Czech and Slovak markets. Brands such as Bassano Parquet, Foglie d'Oro, and Arte Brotto are located in Italy near Venice, Panaget has production in French Brittany, and Origineel Chapel Parket is based in the Netherlands. We have exceptional relationships with all of them and regularly visit their workshops to bring you their latest products

Production of standard shapes and sizes of floors takes 5–6 weeks, while non-standard orders are manufactured in 7–10 weeks, sometimes even longer. We will inform you in advance about the delivery time. All our partners use only FSC or PEFC certified wood.

The journey from visiting the showroom to the first walk on the new floor takes about 3–4 months. The whole process usually starts at our showroom in Prague's Vinohrady, where you choose a floor according to your preferences. We then measure your interior and prepare a detailed calculation. After its approval and payment of the deposit invoice, we proceed to manufacture the floor.

Production of standard shapes and sizes of floors takes 5–6 weeks, while non-standard orders are manufactured in 7–10 weeks, sometimes even longer. We will inform you in advance about the delivery time.

The dismantling of existing floors, preparation of the substrate, and installation of the new wooden floor depending on the scope of work takes days, at most two weeks. We will create an exact schedule for you after confirming the order.

The quality of the surface onto which the floor is installed significantly affects the lifespan of the wooden floor. Therefore, it must be properly prepared and meet the following parameters.

The basic requirement is that the substrate must be clean, dry, cohesive without cracks and fissures, degreased, and free of dust. Additionally, it must be level (maximum permissible deviations for residential areas are ±2 mm over 2 m according to standard ČSN 74 4505), and the substrate layers must be adequately dried. In the case of cement screed, the moisture content must be a maximum of 1.2% CM* (below 0.9% CM* for underfloor heating) and anhydrite 0.5% CM* (0.3% CM* for underfloor heating). We perform this measurement using a destructive method and issue a certificate of the result, which is recognized by expert witnesses.

We will inform you about specific requirements for surface preparation well in advance. It is ideal when we can prepare the surface ourselves as part of the order to ensure that your new wooden floor will serve you for decades.
* CM stands for Carbit Method (converted from weight % water to % CM for cement screed)

If necessary, we are happy to dismantle unsuitable wooden, vinyl, or laminate flooring, or carpet as part of the work and dispose of them in an environmentally friendly manner.

In the case of old houses, we also completely prepare the necessary substrate, which commonly involves removing old debris between beams and preparing a completely new composition suitable for installation.

The advantage of this comprehensive approach is not only that you don't have to worry about anything, but also that we can guarantee you a longer lifespan of the floor. This is because the quality of the substrate layers determines the lifespan of the floor.

In general, you can expect +/- 5 mm for surface comparison needs (leveling), a maximum of 1 mm for the adhesive layer, and then add the thickness of the specific wooden floor you have chosen. If leveling of the floor is not necessary, take into account only the adhesive layer and the thickness of the floor.

On a perfectly prepared surface, our master floor installer lays the floor, a process known as "založení" in Czech. This is the stage where the installer lays the first pieces of the floor within the space in such a way that the resulting pattern is visually pleasing and avoids disruptive cuts as much as possible. This responsible task requires hours of measurement, concentration, and years of experience. In intricate interiors, this process can take more than a day.

Subsequently, the team of floor installers continues from the initially laid pieces of the floor and completes it, working from the center of the room towards its edges. Because we pay attention to detail, all edges around door frames and perimeter walls are perfectly trimmed to not disrupt the overall impression of the entire floor. We carefully consider the placement of expansion joints to minimize any disruption to the overall appearance.

When we are finished, we hand over the interior to you or the subsequent craftsmen in perfectly cleaned condition.

Most two-layer or three-layer wooden floors meet the requirements for installation in spaces where underfloor heating or cooling is installed. It's important to know the thermal conductivity coefficient of the material you've chosen. This coefficient should not exceed 0.15 K/W per m². Some wood species are less suitable for underfloor heating. Generally, wood has a higher thermal resistance, which determines how much energy is required to increase the temperature by 1 K per m². Solid oak floors, for example, with a thickness of 20 mm or more, are more difficult to heat. Energy consumption will be higher, and therefore more financially demanding.

After installation, it's necessary to adhere to conditions for proper heating, which we will always provide after installation. Generally, it's advisable to increase the temperature by a maximum of 1–2°C every 24 hours, and similarly decrease it. The maximum temperature (e.g., water temperature in hydronic heating) should not exceed 40°C, and the surface temperature of the floor should not exceed 29°C. Consistent heating and avoiding large temperature fluctuations are essential. Assuming that fluctuations could occur, this factor is taken into account when selecting the material to minimize any nuances in the wood structure due to temperature fluctuations.

Absolutely the same as for the human body. Wood is a hygroscopic material, meaning it can absorb humidity, which affects its shape – it contracts or expands. Therefore, according to manufacturers, it's good to maintain relative humidity in the range of 45 to 65%. For us, the optimum range is between 50 and 60%. By maintaining humidity within this range, your wooden floor will maintain its shape and quality.

Winter months are the most demanding for wooden floors because when temperatures drop below zero, relative humidity decreases to just 20%. Wood reacts to these conditions by contracting, creating gaps, cracks, delamination, and warping in the floor. Therefore, in winter months, it's recommended to humidify the air, not only to protect your floor but also your health. Relative humidity below 40% can cause illness and increased inflammation of the respiratory tract in both adults and children. Dry mucous membranes lose their filtering function and begin to allow unwanted pathogens into the body.

For long-term durability and beauty of your floor, it's necessary to follow basic usage rules. Wood should be protected from abrasive materials, furniture should have felt pads underneath, and mats should be used at entry points to rooms.

The floor is the largest piece of furniture in your home, and therefore requires regular care. Use maintenance products designed for wood care. When handing over the floor, we will directly recommend brands whose products we have had the best experience with.

In case of wear, maintenance care can be provided, or specific damaged parts of the floor can be repaired or replaced locally. Therefore, we offer regular inspections by our technician, who will inspect the floor and suggest any necessary measures.

All wooden floors we offer come from Italian, French, and Dutch manufacturers using only certified wood. Therefore, the price of an oak wooden floor starts at 2,500 CZK per m². The price of an American walnut floor is always higher by 1,000 to 1,500 CZK per m² compared to an oak floor in the same standard.

The final price of the wooden floor is influenced mainly by your requirements for functionality and appearance, the proportion of manual work in its processing, and the choice of other materials (we can incorporate various types of wood, marbles, or metals into the floor).

The installation price depends on the complexity of the interior and the technological requirements of the chosen floor. However, you can be assured that our internal team of master floor installers, with years of experience and special training, will install the floor. We would be happy to calculate the exact price of your dream floor in our showroom in Prague's Vinohrady, where we have samples of all customization options prepared for you.

Wood has been the primary material in flooring for centuries. It's no coincidence that the appearance of wood is the most imitated pattern for vinyl and laminate floors, as well as ceramic tiles. However, compared to them, wood does not depreciate over time. On the contrary, over time, it develops the highly desired aesthetic patina.

Moreover, it's a natural material that brings a piece of nature into our homes. It has been proven that we feel better in its presence, and furthermore, it's one of the few sustainable materials with which we can furnish our homes or apartments.

With proper care, wooden floors can serve several generations. Considering the quality of processing, properties, and additional maintenance, they are still the best investment.

We have been working with wood for over 10 years and have gone through the entire process – from discussions with foresters through processing in sawmills, wholesale sales, to the creation of custom wooden floors by Valen&Masar. Therefore, we understand wood through and through, and the longer we work with it, the more we appreciate it.

All the brands we exclusively represent on the Czech market represent the European top among wooden floor manufacturers. Manufacturers are accustomed to creating floors according to customers' wishes, so nothing is a problem for us.

Our team consists of master floor installers specializing directly in wooden floors. Therefore, you can be sure that the result will look exactly as designed by the architect or as we have approved together.

And because we truly believe in our floors, we automatically provide an extended warranty for them.

Yes, we can perfectly coordinate your entire interior. Using the same techniques, we can produce wooden flooring, wall cladding, wooden stairs, as well as standalone and built-in furniture. This ensures that all wooden elements have the same tone and blend perfectly together. Do you have an original idea? Share your vision with us, and together we will bring it to life.

Wood is the most eco-friendly material in the world. It is a renewable resource formed by solar energy and atmospheric carbon. The health benefits in the interior are undeniable; wood is very hygienic and antibacterial. Tannins, or tannic acids, naturally kill bacteria on the surface, resulting in what is called "clean dirt." Wood is also antistatic, so you don't have to worry about dust collecting on it, as is often the case with artificial floor coverings.

All the wood we use comes from sustainably managed forests and has FSC or PEFC certification. Manufacturers like Foglie d'Oro and Arte Brotto even use blockchain technology to document the exact origin of the tree used for your floor.

For allergy sufferers, wooden flooring is the most suitable choice as a natural material. Our suppliers use only natural materials for wood surface treatment, so you can walk barefoot on it and play with children without any concerns.
